AVON PARK, Fla. (WFLA) — A man fatally stabbed an intruder who shot his wife at their Avon Park home on Thursday night, according to Highlands County Sheriff Paul Blackman.
Deputies said they were called to a home on Joe Hilton Street around 8:30 p.m. Thursday for a suspicious incident.
When deputies arrived at the home, they found a husband and wife, both 69, suffering from serious injuries. They also found 62-year-old Lindsey Glenn dead inside the house.
According to Blackman, Glenn gained entry into the couple’s home and shot the woman in the face. The man saw that Glenn had shot his wife, so he armed himself with a seven-inch knife and began stabbing Glenn.
“Once armed with the knife, he went to work on Mr. Lindsey Glenn,” Blackman said. “Ultimately, Glenn was cut to pieces and very much deceased by the time deputies could get to him.”
Blackman said Glenn had been previously convicted of at least 12 different felonies, including robbery and burglary.
“I would like to commend the male victim for this bravery and quick action in defending his wife and their home,” Blackman said. “We will pray for his wife that she has a fast and full recovery.”
Blackman said the woman is in stable condition at a trauma center. The man was taken to a hospital for his injuries but has since been released.
The incident remains under investigation.
