VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (NewsNation Now) — A dean at a university in Virginia has resigned after posting a statement on Facebook that called supporters of President-elect Joe Biden “ignorant, anti-American and anti-Christian.”
Virginia Wesleyan University announced the resignation Monday in a statement on its website.
The school in Virginia Beach said Paul Ewell resigned as Dean of Virginia Wesleyan University Global Campus. He’s also leaving his job as professor of management, business and economics reported NewsNation affiliate WAVY.
Ewell’s now-deleted post told Biden supporters to “unfriend” him and accused them of corrupting not only the election but “our youth … our country.” His statements were made on his private Facebook page but they became public after a screenshot was circulated.
President Donald Trump retweeted an Associated Press version of the story with the comment “Progress!”
The university released a statement, posted their Facebook page, on Nov. 6.
The University is aware of a recent comment made on social media by a member of the campus community. These views and opinions are expressly the individual’s own. Civic engagement and religious freedom are at the core of the University’s values, and we remain an inclusive and caring community that empowers meaningful relationships through listening, understanding, and communication.

University spokeswoman Stephanie Smaglo said last week that Ewell has apologized for the post but declined to comment further as the school doesn’t discuss personnel matters and plans to address the situation internally.
Ewell told WAVY he should not have spoken out of anger and “set a poor example in that post of what a Christian should be.”
“I have many Democrat friends and I want to apologize for saying that I didn’t want to be friends with them and for calling them names. I am genuinely sorry for letting my anger get the best of me,” Ewell added.
