5,000 gallons of hot asphalt spilled on Texas interstate
LINDALE, Texas (KETK) — The Lindale Fire Department responded to a crash on Thursday after a tanker rolled over and spilled approximately 5,000 gallons of hot asphalt.
The Lindale Fire Department was dispatched on Thursday to I-20 MM 548 westbound to a 18-wheeler rollover with an unknown substance spilling from the tanker. The driver of the 18-wheeler was taken to a local hospital, however at this time their condition is unknown.
“We ask for you to keep the victim and their family in your thoughts and prayers,” the Lindale Fire Department said.
It was later determined that the substance was hot asphalt. Smith County ESD2 responded to the call, and used their plow to help contain the spill. Lone Star Hazmat was called to the scene and remains working to the clean the spill as of 5:30 p.m.
It was determined that about 5,000 galloons of hot asphalt was spilled.
The Lindale Fire Department said the cause of the investigation remains under investigation.
