Body of missing Texas woman found inside alligator’s jaw
- Police: The woman is believed to have been in her 60s
- Autopsy results are pending
- Authorities say recent flooding has led to more alligator sightings
(NewsNation) — The remains of a missing woman were found in the jaws of an alligator in the Houston area, according to multiple reports.
Police say the reptile was found in a bayou in Clear Lake, about 30 minutes southeast of Houston.
KPRC-TV reports a police officer shot and killed the alligator to prevent it from doing any more damage to the woman’s remains. A search and rescue team subsequently recovered the bodies of the woman and the alligator.
It’s unclear whether the woman was deceased before she was attacked by the alligator.
According to KPRC, police believe the woman was in her 60s. No further identification was given.
Autopsy results are pending.
Recent flooding in the Houston area may be to blame for an increase in alligator encounters.
The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office says high flood waters have caused more reports of “nuisance alligators” than usual.
