AUSTIN (KXAN) — Chevron announced big changes for the makeup of the company Friday morning.

Chevron Corporation is moving its headquarters from San Ramon, California to Houston, Texas before the end of the year, according to a press release from the oil and gas giant.

The release said Chevron Chairman and CEO Mike Wirth and Vice Chairman Mark Nelson will move to Houston before the end of 2024 to “co-locate with other senior leaders and enable better collaboration and engagement with executives, employees, and business partners.”

Chevron expects all corporate functions to migrate to Houston over the next five years, according to the announcement. The company does not expect much immediate relocation impacts to employees based in San Ramon, and the release said positions in support of the company’s California operations will remain in San Ramon.

According to Chevron, there are roughly 7,000 employees in the Houston area already and about 2,000 in San Ramon. Chevron operates crude oil fields, technical facilities, and two refineries and supplies more than 1,800 retail stations in California, per the release.

Chevron also announced leadership changes, with several long-term senior leaders retiring this year. Those include Nigel Hearne, executive vice president, Oil, Products & Gas; Rhonda Morris, vice president and chief human resources officer; Michelle Green, vice president, Human Resources, Oil, Products & Gas; and Colin Parfitt, vice president, Midstream.
