DEMING, N.M. (KRQE) – On Monday morning, Jan. 22, the Deming Police Department responded to reports of an “explosive device” at the Adult Probation Office on South Silver Avenue. Officers set up a security perimeter, evacuated nearby citizens, and called New Mexico State Police’s Bomb Squad.
Using surveillance footage, officials were able to identify a vehicle tied to the suspicious device. At around noon, officers located the suspect’s vehicle and a pursuit began, leading to road closures in and around Deming.
Officers took the suspect into custody, but their identity has not yet been released. As of 4 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 22, I-10 remains closed from exits 81 to 85 while NMSP clears the suspect’s vehicle of any possible dangers. The area near the Adult Probation Office is also closed to the public while police investigate.
