Chiefs’ Harrison Butker jersey sales exceed Travis Kelce, Aaron Rodgers
- Butker is the highest-paid kicker in the NFL
- He is a three-time Super Bowl champion
- Butker received criticism from some over his Catholic worldview this year
(NewsNation) — Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker was a surprise name among NFL players with the highest sales in the NFLPA’s report.
Butker is regarded as one of the best at his position. He kicked the game-winning field goal in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win over San Francisco.
During the offseason, Butker shot to national prominence transcending sports when he delivered a speech regarding his Catholic beliefs at Benedictine College, a Catholic university in Kansas in May.
Butker was criticized by some who dispute his worldview, and sentiment that both men and women find greater fulfillment in parenthood than their career.
When questioned by local media, he stood by comments in his speech. This offseason he was also given a four-year, $25.6 million contract extension, making him the highest-paid kicker in the NFL.
The criticism seems not to have resonated with many NFL fans, as Butker ranked 11th for merchandise sales between March 1 and May 31. This put him ahead of teammate Travis Kelce (12th) and New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers (13th), among others.
Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud topped the list ahead of Kansas City signal-caller Patrick Mahomes and Detroit’s former No. 1 overall pick Aidan Hutchinson.
Butker has made a strong start to the 2024 NFL season and is 100% (4-4) on field goals. He did miss an extra point in the 22-17 win over Atlanta.
The Chiefs (3-0) are one of five teams undefeated heading into Week 4. Kansas City plays the Los Angeles Chargers (2-1) in L.A. at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday.
