(NEXSTAR) – McDonald’s France is apparently feeling a bit salty after its home team’s loss to the U.S. basketball team at the Olympics on Sunday.

The day after Team USA defeated France to win gold at the 2024 Games on Saturday, a message posted to Instagram by McDonald’s France jokingly stated that the country’s restaurants were thinking of removing their curry dipping sauce from the menu “for obvious reasons.”

“For at least 4 years,” McDonald’s France added, in a caption alongside a photo if its Classic Curry dipping sauce, one of several McDonald’s items not available at U.S. locations.

France lost the lead — and ultimately the gold medal — to the U.S. on Saturday, after Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors scored four 3-pointers in the final minutes, allowing Team USA to expand its lead.

“There’s just a lot of faith, living and dying with the shots you think you should take,” Curry said, per the Associated Press. “The last 2 1/2 minutes were special. Guys were hyping me up. We had confidence in what we were trying to do. And I was just really present in the moment, enjoying myself.”

Saturday’s win gave Team USA its fifth consecutive gold medal in Olympic basketball, and its second consecutive win over France, who once again earned silver.

Despite some French fans’ strong reaction to their team’s second-place finish, McDonald’s clearly appeared to be having some fun with the results on social media. Reactions to the joke were mixed on Instagram — one commenter claimed to be boycotting the sauce anyway — but there was at least some interest in a saucy exchange program of sorts, in honor of Curry’s performance.

“If they want to remove this in France, then YOU need to bring it to the United States,” one user wrote, tagging McDonald’s U.S. “Do the right thing.”
