Patriots, coach Bill Belichick mutually part ways
(NewsNation) — Bill Belichick, the man with the most Super Bowl trophies of any NFL head coach, will be looking for a job for the first time in 24 years.
Belichick and the New England Patriots have agreed to “part ways” after a string of disappointing seasons. The Patriots tied for the second-worst record in the NFL in 2023.
In a press conference, Patriots team owner Robert Kraft and Belichick announced they had reached an amicable decision to part ways.
“Like a good marriage, a successful head coach-owner relationship requires a lot of hard work and I’m very proud that our partnership lasted for 24 years,” Kraft said.
Belichick spoke briefly about his experiences with the team, praising the players for their efforts and thanking the media for coverage of the team.
“I have so much respect for all the players,” Belichick said. “I don’t know if anyone’s gotten more coverage in the past 24 years.”
He also thanked fans for their support over the years and said he was looking forward to the future.
His six Super Bowl championships, all with the Patriots since 2001, are second to none. He is the second-winningest coach of all time behind Miami’s Don Shula.
