Are cicadas dangerous to your pets?
NEW YORK (PIX11) – Billions of cicadas from two separate broods are expected to emerge from underground this spring.
It will be the first time it’s happened in more than 200 years, meaning your dog or cat may encounter a few when they’re outside.
But are they dangerous to your pets?
Cicadas only pose a “minimal risk” to your pet, according to veterinarians. They’re not toxic, they don’t sting and they’re not known to carry diseases, veterinarians said.
Your biggest concern might be if you’re four-legged friend swallows one. They may get an upset stomach as a result, according to veterinarians.
