(KTLA) – Halloween has always been a popular day for Chipotle due to its annual Boorito promotion, which offers discounted burritos and bowls to costumed customers. But this year, the fast-casual chain is actually hoping its fans will want to dress up as a burrito — or a bag, or a fork, or a napkin, or a cup.

In collaboration with Spirit Halloween, Chipotle has debuted its first Halloween collection, featuring five bodysuits inspired by Chipotle’s own utensils, paper goods and burritos.

“Our popular Halloween tradition, Boorito, began with a burrito-themed costume contest and now we’re taking it to the next level with the launch of our first-ever costume collection in collaboration with Spirit Halloween,” said Chris Brandt, the chief brand officer of Chipotle, in a statement included with a press release.

The collection, which launched Friday, offers five costumes to choose from: Chipotle Fork, Chipotle Napkin, Chipotle Water Cup, Chipotle Burrito and Chipotle Bag. Each sells for $39.99.

The costumes will be sold in select Spirit Halloween stores in Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver, New Jersey and New York. Customers can also purchase them at SpiritHalloween.com.

Chipotle’s idea for a Halloween costume collection stems from an older meme, whereby users on social media would dream up ideas for fictional costumes. These posts were usually accompanied by a fake photo of the costumes’ bags (like those sold at Spirit Halloween) with silly descriptions and images on the front.

Chipotle got in on the fun in 2022, posting a picture of a “fork costume.” They did it again in 2023 with their “napkin costume” idea. Both are now among the actual costumes that customers can currently purchase.

“Year after year, we are blown away by the passion and creativity we see from fans sharing their take on popular Spirit Halloween memes — and we’re beyond thrilled to be teaming up with Chipotle to bring some of those creations to life,” Kym Sarkos, executive vice president at Spirit Halloween, said of the collaboration.

This isn’t the first time an online conversation has resulted in a real-life product for Chipotle. In 2022, the company debuted a limited-edition lemonade-scented soy candle designed to look like a Chipotle water cup after some fans confessed that they filled their complimentary water cups with lemonade.
