DENVER (KDVR) — The Georgetown Police Department is left with just one sworn officer after two charged in the death of Christian Glass resigned this month.

The two officers are accused in the death of the 22-year-old, who was shot and killed in his car in June 2022 after he called for help when his car broke down in Silver Plume.

Marshal Randy Williams and Deputy Tim Collins are charged with failing to step in and stop the deadly shooting. Both officers were on administrative leave when they voluntarily stepped down, according to Town Administrator Rick Keuroglian.

Williams resigned on Feb. 5, and Collins resigned on Feb. 12.

Keuroglian told NewsNation affiliate KDVR that John Gaskins, previously a sergeant, was appointed acting marshal after the resignations so that the department remains in good standing with the state.

The department hired an administrative assistant to make sure someone will be in the office while Gaskins is in the field. Keuroglian said the town is hiring a third party to find a new official marshal, a process expected to take three to six months.

Meanwhile, the town administrator said the police department has backup from county sheriff’s deputies, as well as police from Idaho Springs and Empire, so there will always be someone to respond to dispatch.

Keuroglian said the department is working to rebuild the department and trust with the town.

Williams and Collins were supposed to be arraigned on Tuesday, but the hearing was delayed.

The hearings have been rescheduled for May.
