Denver temporarily closes 2 city parks, citing crime
DENVER (KDVR) — The city of Denver has announced the temporary closure of two parks: La Alma Lincoln at 13th and Mariposa and Sonny Lawson in Five Points.
A Parks and Recreation spokesperson said via email that the decision was made because of an increase in community complaints.
The playgrounds, dog parks and ballfields remain open at both locations. There are areas at La Alma Lincoln Park that are still open for public use.
“It just sucks it has to go to that extreme,” said Johnna as she watched her two children play at the Sonny Lawson playground.
Johnna applauded the city’s decision to keep the playgrounds open.
Reportedly, the city expects to keep the parks closed for about 30 days.
