A pedestrian lost his life after he was hit by a car traveling “over 100 miles per hour” down a Pomona street, a man claiming to be the victim’s brother told NewsNation affiliate KTLA.

Preliminary information from the Pomona Police Department indicates that the crash took place just after 1:35 a.m. on Towne Avenue near 9th Street.

“Responding officers arrived on scene and located the pedestrian laying within the northbound lanes of Towne Avenue,” Pomona police said in a news release. “First responders assessed the pedestrian and attempted life saving measures [but] unfortunately, the pedestrian suffered major injuries and passed away.”

A man who says the victim is his brother told KTLA 5’s Erin Myers that his brother was struck by one of two cars traveling “over 100 miles per hour” down Towne Avenue.

“I was standing on the sidewalk when I saw there were two vehicles coming [at] maybe over 100 miles per hour,” said the man, only identified as Miguel. “But he had already crossed the yellow line in the middle when he was run over.”

The vehicle that struck the pedestrian – whose identity has not been officially released – fled the crash scene and was not immediately located by the responding officers, law enforcement officials said.

No suspect or vehicle description has been released. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Pomona Police Department.
