SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO (NewsNation Now) — Crews contained a fire on Sign Hill in South San Francisco Friday as two teens admitted they started the fire.

The four-alarm fire started before 12 p.m. and grew because of the hot, dry, windy conditions. Smoke could be seen coming from the popular sign on the hill near San Francisco International Airport.

The blaze was contained within two hours.

Authorities said a 14-year-old and 16-year-old were questioned and admitted to starting the blaze. The South San Francisco Fire Marshall will finish the investigation.

A new fire burned about an hour later in South San Francisco. Officials say the two blazes were unrelated.

All evacuation orders were lifted by the city by 8 p.m.

The fires happened the same day President Donald Trump’s administration approved California’s request for a major disaster declaration for wildfires. Trump initially rejected California’s request on Thursday.
