AUSTIN (KXAN) — More than 100 dogs are safe and sound after multiple animal rescue organizations helped retrieve them from a hoarding situation.

Suzy Falgout is the founder and CEO of the Caldwell County Animal Coalition (CCACtx). She confirmed to NesNation affiliate KXAN CCACtx rescued more than 100 chihuahuas from a Lockhart home Oct. 1-2, after family members reached out about the situation.

CCACtx, Poquita Paws, Jack Jack’s Pack, Central Texas Little Dog Rescue and Pawliska Rescue & Reunite were on site during the response effort to help rescue the animals and then take them in.

Staff from Violet Crown Veterinary Specialists, located in Bee Cave, as well as Dr. Chris Huddleson helped provide any necessary medical care for the animals during the rescue operation. The following organizations took dogs in to care for and house them:

  • CCACtx
  • Poquita Paws
  • Jack Jack’s Pack
  • Central Texas Little Dog Rescue
  • Pawliska Rescue & Reunite
  • Hay Dude Critter Rescue
  • Altruistic Dog Rescue
  • Charming Pet Rescue
  • Good Catch Dog Rescue
  • Safe Rescue of Central Texas
  • Texas Chihuahua Rescue
  • Small Chance Rescue
  • Ay Chihuahua Rescue
  • Operation Barking Squirrel
  • Kingdom Rescue
  • AJK

In total, 87 dogs are currently in rescue services’ care and 16 were relocated with the help of family assistance. Falgout said the home involved in the hoarding incident is being boarded up and is set to be demolished.

“We are hopeful that this situation will shed light on the need of sterilizing pets as well as vaccinations and microchips,” she added in her email.

In fewer than three years, Falgout said CCACtx has helped sterilize more than 1,500 animals as well as microchip pets. She said her hope is for CCACtx to launch a brick and mortar location in downtown Lockhart next year to provide monthly low-cost clinics to community members seeking those services.

Those interested in learning more about CCACtx can find more details online, including information on how to donate to CCACtx’s work via platforms like Venmo (@CCACtx) and Zeffy.
