A case of Alaskapox resulted in the death of an elderly man on the Kenai Peninsula in late January. Dr. Dana Hawkinson of the University of Kansas Health Center said it appears the man's already-compromised immune system was a factor in his death. "It doesn't look to be a next pandemic or anything like that," he said. "This was probably a really rare case."
