(NewsNation) —Florida could see gas shortages for several weeks with two crucial ports for fuel still not operational in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton.

About a quarter of all of the nearly 7,900 gas stations in the state of Florida do not have gas or power.

It could take many weeks for some of the most hard-hit areas to get gas and for gas stations to open back up, analysts for GasBuddy told NewsNation.

The biggest obstacle is the damage done to two major fuel ports in the area, they said. Both had no power as of Thursday afternoon and continued to clean up the damage.

The majority of gas stations in both Tampa and Sarasota are completely out of gas leaving residents in difficult circumstances.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has pushed back saying the state does not have a fuel shortage because fuel tanks were pre positioned before Hurricane Milton hit.
