4 killed, 35 injured in Greenfield tornado: Iowa State Patrol
ADAIR COUNTY, Iowa — On Wednesday the Iowa State Patrol confirmed that four people were killed and at least 35 were injured as a result of a strong tornado that hit Greenfield Tuesday evening.
At around 4 p.m. on Tuesday the small town of Greenfield was directly hit by an at least EF 3 tornado that flattened homes and buildings.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, four individuals were killed in the tornado. The victims’ names and ages are not being released at this time.
There were a total of 35 people who were injured and treated at designated medical care sites in and outside of the county, but the ISP said that number is likely higher. Of the 35, at least 14 patients were transported to out-of-county facilities.
The Adair County Memorial Hospital sustained serious damage from the tornado, resulting in patients being transported to those out-of-county medical facilities. On Wednesday officials with the Adair County Health System said the hospital will be closed until further notice and it could take weeks, possibly months, to repair the damage.
