A tropical depression could form in the Atlantic by the end of the week, the National Hurricane Center said.

A disturbance located between the Cabo Verde Islands and the Lesser Antilles is currently in a dry-air environment and development is not anticipated in the next several days.

The system is expected to move westward, west-southwestward where environmental conditions could become favorable for development by the end of the week.

According to the NHC, a tropical depression could form as the system moves west-northwestward and approaches or moves near the Leeward Islands.

The chance of development in the next seven days is 60%, as of the NHC’s 2 p.m. update.

Another broad area of low pressure has appeared and may form later this week in the southwestern Caribbean Sea.

The NHC said this disturbance has a 20% chance of development as it moves slowly west-northwestward toward Central America. Heavy rainfall is expected in that area, regardless of development.
