Princess Kate finishes chemotherapy, plans public return
- Catherine, Princess of Wales, announced her cancer diagnosis in March
- She said she completed chemotherapy but has 'long' path to full recovery
- She plans to return to public engagements in the next few months
(NewsNation) — Catherine, Princess of Wales, will begin attending public events again in the coming months following her completion of chemotherapy, she announced Monday.
“Despite all that has gone before I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life,” she posted in an official statement on X. “William and I are so grateful for the support we have received and have drawn great strength from all those who are helping us at this time.”
The message accompanied a video of the princess, formerly known as Kate Middleton, her husband Prince William and their children holding hands and playing outside.
“Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus,” her voice narrated. “Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.”
Kate announced her cancer diagnosis in March, noting she would undergo chemotherapy following an absence from the public eye and royal duties.
She also underwent abdominal surgery for a condition believed to be noncancerous at the time, but later found out that was incorrect.
The princess has largely been out of the public eye since the March announcement.
“Everyone’s kindness, empathy and compassion has been truly humbling,” she said Monday. “To all those who are continuing their own cancer journey — I remain with you, side by side, hand in hand. Out of darkness, can come light, so let that light shine bright.”
