Biden speaks with Netanyahu about Israel’s Iran retaliation plan
- Biden and Netanyahu spoke about Iran Wednesday
- Israel has said it will retaliate for Iran's ballistic missile attack
- Conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has escalated in recent weeks
(NewsNation) — President Joe Biden spoke Wednesday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about Israel’s plans to strike Iran in retaliation for a ballistic missile attack, the White House confirmed.
Vice President Kamala Harris was also expected to join the call, a source familiar with the plan told NewsNation.
The Israeli military said last week Iran launched at least 180 missiles toward Israel. The incident marked the start of an anticipated attack that followed increased conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Israel’s air defenses intercepted many of the incoming Iranian missiles, though some landed in central and southern Israel, military spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said. Two people suffered minor wounds from shrapnel, according to Israel’s national rescue service.
Until now, Israel hasn’t divulged any potential retaliation plans to the U.S.
News of Wednesday’s phone call between Biden and Netanyahu comes as U.S. officials express growing frustration over Israel’s lack of communication about its military action in Gaza and Lebanon, the Wall Street Journal reported.
