(NewsNation) — As Americans pause to remember our fallen military members, Israel wants to remind us that the saying “freedom is not free” rings especially true in the months since the October 7 attack by Hamas.

“Israel is in a very challenging moment in its war for freedom,” said Michal Cotler-Wunsh, former Knesset member and Israel’s special envoy on antisemitism.

She also noted that, since the Hamas attack on October 7, the world has seen “a tsunami of antisemitism.”

People “all over the world (are) attacking Jews on campuses, online, on the streets for their identity in the wake of what was the worst attack of Jews since the Holocaust. Like 9/11, 10/7 was an attack of barbarism on civilization.”

While avoiding a question about how Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has managed the war, she stressed that her country is “fighting an existential war – a war for freedom and a war for our lives.”

Colter-Wunsh also said Americans, on Memorial Day, should remember Israel’s hostages.

“125 people, including babies, children, Holocaust survivors are still being held in the terror dungeons and tunnels that Hamas built. That is what’s tearing up the state of Israel. Yes, Israel is at a very challenging moment in a war for freedom.”

Colter-Wunsh spoke to “NewsNation Now” hours before the Israel Defense Force launched an aerial strike on the Gaza town of Rafah, killing two senior Hamas officials, according to an IDF spokesperson.

Gaza’s health ministry says the attack also killed 35 and wounded dozens more, mostly women and children.
