Hurricane: Hurricane Debby made landfall near Steinhatchee, Florida on Monday morning after upgrading from a tropical storm late Sunday night, according to the National Hurricane Center. Ksenia Karelina: Following the euphoria over the release of some Americans in a prisoner swap last week, family members of the eight Americans still being held in Russia are holding out hope for their loved ones. Imprisoned amateur ballerina Ksenia Karelina, a Russian-born naturalized American citizen, is scheduled to go on trial soon for treason. She was arrested in Russia in January as she was visiting her grandmother after Russian authorities found a donation of $51.80 on her Venmo account to a charity raising money for humanitarian aid for Ukrainians impacted by the war. “America loves you. ‘Multi-front war’: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told a Cabinet meeting that Israel is already in a “multi-front war” with Iran and its proxies. This comes as the U.S. and allies prepare to defend Israel from an expected counterstrike in an attempt to prevent a wider regional conflict. Horse border patrol: Along the San Diego and El Centro border sectors, there are protections in place to thwart human and drug trafficking; though, perhaps not as you’d expect. With rugged terrain plentiful along the border between the El Centro and San Diego sectors; adjacent to Mexico, mustangs from the Bureau of Land Management are used to shore up the area. ‘Justice for Jocelyn’: The family of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray, whose body was found in a creek in June, joined Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Houston prosecutors Friday to push for legislation following her killing. “All I have left now is to fight, to fight for Jocelyn, to fight for justice, and that’s why I’m here today. I refuse to let Jocelyn’s memory fade,” Nungaray’s mother said. Human smuggling: Two California residents are facing felony smuggling charges for allegedly trying to bring a Mexican national into the U.S. in the hidden compartment of a vehicle. Rates of cancer: An increasing number of Millennials and Gen Xers are being diagnosed with several forms of cancer, according to a new study by the American Cancer Society. Wave of scrutiny: Olympic boxer Imane Khelif said backlash the Algerian athlete has faced over misconceptions about her gender “harms human dignity” and called for an end to bullying athletes. “It can destroy people, it can kill people’s thoughts, spirit and mind,” Khelif said.
