Trump trial: Jurors in Donald Trump’s hush money trial are expected to begin deliberations Wednesday after receiving instructions from the judge on the case. The deliberations follow closing arguments in which Trump’s lawyer called the prosecution’s star witness the “greatest liar of all time,” and prosecutors accused Trump of trying to “hoodwink” voters in the 2016 presidential election by participating in a hush money scheme. Full breakdown of closing arguments >
The jury: Twelve New Yorkers will be tasked with weighing whether to convict Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. All of the jurors must land on the same decision for each of the 34 counts Trump faces — otherwise the case ends in a mistrial. The jury made up of a melting pot of Manhattan residents — from a physical therapist to investment bankers and immigrants to lifelong New Yorkers — has heard more than four weeks of testimony from 22 witnesses. See who showed up to Trump’s trial and who didn’t >
The charges: Trump faces 34 criminal charges, alleging he falsified business records during the 2016 presidential election. Prosecutors charge the records were falsified to hide $310,000 in payments that were tied to a porn star’s allegations that she had a sexual relationship with Trump. The former president has maintained his innocence since being charged and has claimed he is the victim of a political witch hunt. Take a closer look at each of Trump’s criminal charges in the case >

Awaiting retrial: Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein is set to appear before a judge Wednesday in the same New York City courthouse where former President Donald Trump is on trial. Weinstein is awaiting a retrial on rape charges after his 2020 conviction was thrown out. What to expect from Wednesday’s court hearing >
Conviction tossed: Weinstein was convicted of rape in the third degree for an attack on an aspiring actor and of sexually assaulting a former TV and film production assistant. Last month, New York’s highest court threw out the convictions after determining the judge unfairly allowed testimony against Weinstein, 72, based on allegations from other women that weren’t part of the case. Weinstein has maintained that any sexual activity was consensual. The latest >

What’s happening: Closing arguments are expected Wednesday in the trial of a New Jersey dad charged with murdering his 6-year-old son by forcing him to do abusive treadmill workouts. Christopher Gregor does not plan to testify in the trial about his son Corey Micciolo’s death. Micciolo died from blunt force trauma and lacerations to his heart and liver, according to autopsy reports. Surveillance video from March 2021 shows Gregor forcing Micciolo to run on a treadmill, continually increasing the treadmill’s speed, causing his son to fall off it face-first about six times. Ultimately, Micciolo had a seizure and died at the hospital. Gregor is now on trial for the endangerment of the welfare of a child and first-degree murder. Latest on the case >
