What’s going on:After a weekend of retaliatory strikes, the U.S. warned Iran that it will keep attacking if American forces continue to be targeted. The U.S. and Britain struck 36 Houthi targets in Yemen on Saturday. The U.S. fired at Houthi targets again Sunday. This comes after the Houthis have conducted missile or drone attacks against commercial and military ships transiting the Red Sea and three American soldiers were killed at a U.S. base on the Syrian-Jordan border.
What’s new:Senate negotiators shared their border security deal Sunday night. The 370-page bill is designed to give Customs and Border Patrol agents “operational control” of the southern border by speeding up the processing of asylum claims and giving the president the authority to shut down the border if daily crossings average more than 4,000 migrants.
Let’s talk money: The full supplemental deal totals $118 billion. That includes funds for the border, Israel and Ukraine aid and other foreign policy priorities. About $20 billion out of the $118 billion will go to the border security portion of the deal.
What’s next: Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., plans to bring it to the floor this week. Whether the Senate bill will be taken up in the House is still up in the air. Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., has said it’s “dead on arrival.”
Win and a surprise: While accepting her award, Swift said: “I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years.” She used her Grammy win to announce her new album “The Tortured Poets Department.” It has an April 19 release date.
More Grammy Awards takeaways: Miley Cyrus won record of the year for “Flowers.” Billie Eilish won song of the year for “What Was I Made For?” featured in the “Barbie” movie. Victoria Monét won best new artist.
