Supreme Court decision in Trump ballot case could come Monday

What to watch: A Supreme Court decision in the case about whether former President Donald Trump can be kicked off the ballot could come as soon as Monday. 

At issue: Trump is challenging the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision that said he’s disqualified from being president again and ineligible for the state’s primary. The court was the first to invoke the constitutional provision aimed at preventing people who “engaged in insurrection” from holding office. The former president has also since been barred from primary ballots in Illinois and Maine.

Timing: The potential resolution of the case Monday would come before Super Tuesday contests and may remove uncertainty about whether votes for Trump would ultimately count in some states.

Harris to meet with Israeli Cabinet official in Washington despite Netanyahu’s rebuke

The latest: Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday is meeting with Benny Gantz, a member of Israel’s wartime Cabinet who is visiting Washington in defiance of Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In the meeting, Harris is expected to push for a temporary cease-fire deal. The vice president on Sunday called out Israel for not easing a “human catastrophe” in Gaza. “People in Gaza are starving. The conditions are inhumane and our common humanity compels us to act,” Harris said at an event to commemorate the 59th anniversary of “Bloody Sunday” in Alabama. “The Israeli government must do more to significantly increase the flow of aid. No excuses,” Harris said. Israel boycotted Gaza cease-fire talks Sunday after Hamas reportedly rejected demands for a complete list naming hostages that are still alive.

Firefighters battle flames of largest wildfire in Texas history

What’s going on: Firefighters in the Texas Panhandle are working to stop the largest wildfire in state history. Strong winds spread the blaze Sunday and prompted at least one evacuation. The Smokehouse Creek fire has burned more than 1 million acres. As of Sunday afternoon, it was 15% contained. Two other fires that burned a combined 180,000 acres are 60% contained. Officials have not shared what started the fires but said strong winds, warm temperatures and dry grass have fed the blazes.
