WASHINGTON (NewsNation) — Since taking to the campaign trail Sunday, Vice President Kamala Harris has garnered support in the polls, placing her just behind former President Donald Trump in several battleground states, according to a new set of polls

The survey released by Emerson College Polling and The Hill on Thursday found Trump leading Harris by 5 points in Arizona, at 49% to 44%; by 2 points in Georgia, at 48% to 46%; by 1 point in Michigan, at 46% to 45%; by 2 points in Pennsylvania, at 48% to 46%; and tied with her at 47% each in Wisconsin.

In every state except Arizona, the polling falls within the survey’s margin of error, meaning Trump and Harris are essentially tied in most battleground state matchups.

In his first national address since dropping out of the presidential race Sunday, President Joe Biden announced Wednesday he’d spend the last six months of his term focusing on the job as president and continuing to push the policies he’s implemented.

Biden briefly mentioned Harris, who has already amassed enough Democratic Party delegates to ensure her nomination.

As the campaign heats up, here’s a glimpse at what the presidential candidates have on Thursday’s docket.

Kamala Harris in Houston

Harris spoke at the American Federation of Teachers’ 88th national convention Thursday in Houston. It was the presidential candidate’s second time in the state of Texas this month.

Donald Trump at Mar-a-Largo

The former president is expected to be at Mar-a-Largo on Thursday; however, no campaign events have been scheduled.

On Wednesday, lawmakers learned the weapon used by the gunman who shot at Trump during his July 13 campaign rally had a “collapsible stock.” FBI Director Christopher Wray told Congress the collapsible stock would have made it hard for agents to identify the presence of a gun before the shooting.

Wray revealed the new details during a House Judiciary Committee hearing about FBI oversight, where lawmakers questioned him about the shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania, that killed one attendee and wounded two others.

Other information Wray talked about included the fact that the shooter, identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, appeared to have used a drone at the event site hours before the assassination attempt.

Wray said the FBI’s preliminary investigation found the drone was flown about 200 yards away from the stage at around 3:50-4 p.m., though he stressed the probe into the shooting is still ongoing.

NewsNation will present a special report on the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump on Thursday at 10 p.m. ET. Senior National Correspondent Brian Entin will anchor from Butler, Pennsylvania, near the site of the rally, as NewsNation relives the moment of crisis and the major unanswered questions about what went wrong. Here’s how you can watch.
