(NewsNation) — A father in South Dakota was on a simple morning walk in September when he simply disappeared.

Now, the community in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is working together to find Tyler Weathersby, a father, business owner and husband who stood by his wife as she rebuilt her life after a devastating crime.

A video shows the serenity of the suburbs where Weathersby was slowly walking and showing no signs of duress. He was dressed for the early September weather but did not have his cell phone or wallet with him.

Sioux Falls Police Department Lt. Aaron Nyberg said the department has been working to organize searches based on tips and evidence.

“We’re coordinating drone searches in some of the last areas that the individual was seen, either by us on camera somewhere or been reported to us,” he said.

Weatherby’s wife, Monalisa Perez, said he has two stepchildren, and the couple welcomed a baby girl this year. Those are reasons, she said, he wouldn’t leave.

“It’s been extremely difficult, a lot of ups and downs, a lot of breakdowns, trying to hold it together for our children,” she said. “This is out of character for him.”

Searching for Tyler Weathersby

His brother, George Weathersby, agrees.

“I’m hurt,” he said. “I’m hurt because I know that this isn’t my brother.”

George Weathersby lives in Wyoming but has been deeply involved in the search, hiring a private investigator and raising money for a lawyer specializing in missing persons and criminal cases.

“The public has been amazing. They’ve sent me a lot of different proof, a lot of behind-the-scenes things. They’ve been supporting the search groups, handing out missing person fliers, sending me video footage that they may have found of Tyler,” Weathersby said. “Different screenshots and proofs and different documentation that may lead to hopefully finding Tyler soon.”

Tyler Weathersby and his wife own a streetwear company once featured on Keloland News in Sioux Falls, and Perez made worldwide news herself in 2017.

Monalisa Perez’s past criminal history

Perez was arrested for a live YouTube stunt after the death of her then-boyfriend, who reportedly talked her into shooting him through a book with a handgun.

Perez pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter.

Now, the focus is on finding her husband.

“I think what the community is doing has been extremely helpful — just continuing to keep their eyes open and finding Tyler,” she said.

Perez has said publicly that her husband was under a lot of stress lately but has not explained why.

NewsNation reached out to police in Sioux Falls and was told Perez and the rest of Weathersby’s family are talking to and cooperating with investigators.
