Mom goes viral on TikTok remixing songs using baby toys
- Big Merla remixes popular songs using baby toys
- She said she's constantly creating in her head
- Songs include popular renditions of Snoop Dogg, Rage Against the Machine
(NewsNation) — “Big Merla,” a musician mom who’s gone viral for remixing popular songs for her 1-year-old using baby toys, has over three million followers across social media. She says she hopes to soon put out new music as new opportunities continue to open up.
Big Merla has been a private music teacher for kids since she was 18-years-old, so when she had the toy instruments laying in front of her, it was easy for her to jump in and create.
‘It just makes sense’
“I’m like, ‘Hey, that’s some good Snoop Dogg right there,'” she said Thursday on “Morning in America.” “I was like, ‘That’s a good beat.’ It just makes sense to me being a musician.”
Most of the time, her music renditions come to her naturally. She explained that she’s constantly creating in her head and if the music fits, it fits.
Big Merla said her daughter’s favorite tune is her remix of “Teach Me How to Dougie” by Cali Swag District. She created a makeshift drum set and it’s her daughter’s favorite.
“It makes sense,” she said.
Big Merla launches kid show on YouTube
Creating music on kids toys was just the beginning for Big Merla. Since then, she has launched a kid’s show on YouTube. While it’s still evolving and fairly new, it involves classical music and introducing kids to music theory.
“We’ll see how that evolves over time,” she said. “It’s still very, very new for me.”
