Biden’s chance of winning ‘absolutely none:’ Cenk Uygur
- Uygur: Democrats ‘completely nuts’ not to have pushed Biden out
- Post-shooting unity calls just ‘marketing,’ he says
- Says if GOP stopped hating everyone, they’d win in a landslide
(NewsNation) — Liberal commentator and onetime Democratic presidential candidate Cenk Uygur says President Joe Biden’s chances of being reelected are “zero, none.”
“He’s definitely, definitely, definitely going to lose. There’s no chance of winning,” Uygur told NewsNation Digital at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
“Eight out of 10 people think that his brain isn’t working. The entire party’s brain isn’t working if you nominate a guy who 80% of the country thinks literally doesn’t have a functioning brain.”
Uygur, co-creator of the liberal news and commentary program “The Young Turks,” calls the Democratic Party “completely nuts” for not nominating someone else this year because of Biden’s declining mental acuity.
“It didn’t happen at the debate. It’s just that people recognized it at the debate,” he said.
“I tried to push him out a year ago because this was crystal clear,” said Uygur, referring to his run for the Democratic nomination that began in October last year but was suspended in March.
Uygur tried, but failed, to be listed on several state primary ballots. He was rejected over not being a “natural-born U.S. citizen” under Article II of the U.S. Constitution. Uygur was born in Turkey.
‘Unity’ calls are ‘a joke’
Calls for American unity in the days since the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump are “a joke,” he said.
“I don’t think anyone’s actually promoting it. They’re just doing lip service and marketing. The Republicans can’t wait to attack the Democrats. What are they going to do? All of a sudden be ‘kumbaya’ with Trump? They’re not doing to do that,” he said.
Uygur says there is some “unity” evident, but neither party is interested in pursuing it.
“I agree with JD Vance on holding the bankers accountable. But, when I say that, Democrats go, ‘You can’t do that! JD Vance is a fascist! How dare you?’ He’s agreeing with us! Take the win. He’s agreeing with Elizabeth Warren. Matt Gaetz is doing anticorruption bills with AOC. Take the win! There are ways that you can unify that are very, very real. But when you go to do that, both sides rip your head off,” he said.
Hate, stupidity stopping GOP landslide
Uygur also cited two examples of what he labeled Republican stupidity, starting with the Secret Service response to the shooting at Saturday’s Trump rally in Pennsylvania and some Republicans blasting the female agent who was among those surrounding Trump.
“That woman would have taken a bullet for Donald Trump. She risked her life to save your monster — as she should have. I’m glad he’s fine … and I’m glad she did her job. Now you’re going to insult her after she would have taken a bullet for him?” he said.
Looking at the bigger picture, Uygur says the GOP could not just win in November but win big with a public change of tone.
“If they would just stop hating all of the rest of us, they’d win in a landslide. The country’s in a populist mood (and) they’re pretending to be populist. If they just stopped hating women and all minorities, they’d win so easy! But they can’t help themselves,” he said.
